What We Do

Sound Editorial

With a solid grounding in technical and electrical engineering aspects of audio (pun intended), as well as a studied grasp of the art and flow of post production, our sound designer/mixers strike just the right balance between the art and the science of post production. We can carefully craft a story with sound to captivate your audience, and have mastered all the complex deliverables that can go along with it. We live and breathe audio and music – this is our specialty.

Sound editorial and design is the process of identifying, creating and sculpting the sounds that will comprise the final soundtrack of your project. Many creators believe they have finished the picture editing process with a pretty good track, but there is usually room for sonic improvements.
We completely rebuild your dialog from dailies. We create, edit and sweeten multiple sound effects to give your track texture and depth. The result is a final mix that is creative and exciting for you to be part of. You'll love the end results of the mix, but you'll enjoy the process of getting there even more.

Dialog Sweetening and Restoration

While we wish that we were always handed immaculate production and dialog tracks to work with, this is in practice rarely the case.   We often have to do a lot of work to make audio shine.
De-noising dialog is one of the most important parts of the mixing process, and we take it super-seriously.  Clean tracks increase the intelligibility of the dialog, giving a lot more punch to the audio, while at the same time relaxing the viewer and making the show a more impacful watch.  We are relentless in our pursuit of the best de-noising tools, and are fastidious in their application to obtain the cleanest tracks possible.

Mixing (dubbing)

Modern film mixing happens at the intersection of the creative and the technical worlds.  Audio post production is both an art and a science, and our team members strike just the right balance between the two.  The technical side requires very close attention to a diverse and growing list of deliverables requirements, which we have the patience and focus to master so your film passes QC the first time.

We mix everything from Theatrical Features to TV Documentaries and Interactive content. We are heavily versed in fulfilling different required deliverables for a multitude of projects.  Our amazing sound designer/mixers have a solid work ethic and commitment to help you achieve your vision with sonic excellence.   We can carefully craft a story with sound to captivate your audience

Our new state of the art 7.1 Mix room is controlled by Avid  S1 Consoles and run Protools versions 10 - 12 for Television or Feature projects.  Monitoring is based on Genelec and the rooms are acoustically tuned to Dolby's specs.

Foley

We record foley in all rooms and locations that we can.  Footsteps,  fabric and clothing foley,  and sound effects are performed and captured with an emphasis on capturing audio that blends in with production sound and visuals.  Our recording space is divided into acoustical zones in order to capture the natural acoustic feeling of each space and care is taken with microphone placement to achieve correct perspective within the recordings.

ADR

Automated Dialogue Replacement, (often called looping) is an often-performed function at our studio.   We have a few lav mics and many standard microphones with which we can attempt to best-match the location sound that we are looping in.  We also offer remote playback and recording through Source Connect.  The advances in technology have even allowed us to use iPhone-captured audio in a production.   Talk about phoning it in!

Music Composition

Our chief composer Luke Sterling is a Los Angeles Philharmonic Composer Fellow program and LACHSA Jazz alumni.  He has experience including work on ad campaigns, short films, two feature films, as well as music library contributions.  He is a dynamic jazz pianist, electronic music producer and orchestral music composer.   Add to that his immense orchestration skills using AVID Sibelius and Logic Pro with Vienna Symphonic Instruments, and there is not much that he cannot do.

Library Music

We are assembled an in-house music library that we will be able to make available at no cost in projects that are being audio-posted here.  Editors and directors are often too busy to attend to details of music selection;  we can step in and do the music supervision and dubbing using our library music for you, freeing you up for other tasks.  We have had a lot of success with this, and it can save you a lot of time.

Our library covers the following genres:  Pop, EDM, Trap Rock, Classical, Jazz and moods such as "intense", "happy", thoughtful and of course the advertising favorite, "ambiguously amiable".   Hear selections from our library music here (coming soon).
